Here's a brief introduction to my ukulele lessons:

My passion for ukulele:

I moved here from the mainland almost 30 years ago, and had never even picked up a uke! After watching Herb Ohta perform on a TV telethon, I had to learn. I took his introductory course at the UH, then a few years later got the opportunity to take private lessons.
I've been so fortunate to have learned from Ohta-San, and to have him as a friend. He told us in class many times: "The most important thing is to play from your heart".

Explaining my methods:

I first learned to play from standard sheet music, then later "by ear". Since many beginning students are overwhelmed with reading music and mastering the instrument at the same time, I devised the diagram system. I also provide a Mp3 recording of the song for reference (sorry, it's only me playing).  I've sold over 1000 lessons on Ebay so far, so the method seems to be working.

Almost anyone can learn to play!

Sharing the "love of uke"

There are many free lessons and introductory sessons provided for visitors to Hawaii. See the links below for a few.
The Hawaii International Ukulele Club meets weekly at Paki Park near the zoo. Sessions are from 7-9 PM, and consist of singing Hawaiian songs and strumming. Visitors are welcome!
